NTA-NET PSYCHOLOGY

The UGC NET exam is a highly reputed, recognized exam conducted for the candidates of Master's Degree to make them eligible for becoming professors in Colleges and Universities. The NTA (National Testing Agency) on behalf of the UGC (University Grants Commission) conducts the NET (National Eligibility Test) every year.

  • Candidates generally chose the subjects in the UGC NET based on their master's degree specialization

  • Aspirants can apply for JRF and Assistant Professor or Assistant Professor only based on their interest

Nationality

  • All the citizens of India who have completed their Master's Degree from University/Institute recognized by the Government of India are eligible to apply for the UGC NET Psychology exam

  • All the foreign nationals who have completed their Master's Degree from a University/Institute recognized by the Government of India can apply for the UGC NET Psychology Exam

  • All the Indian nationals who pursued their Master's from an International University can also eligible to appear for the UGC NET Psychology Exam

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION

The educational qualifications that candidates are required to possess are mentioned below.

  • Candidates must secure a percentage of 55 in their Master's Degree exam. However, 5% relaxation is provided to the candidates of Scheduled Tribes (ST), Scheduled Caste (SC), Other Backward Classes (OBC), Persons with Disability (PwD), and Transgender Category. So for the reserved categories, it is enough to secure a 50% score in their Master's Degree

  • Aspirants must complete their Post Graduation from a recognized university or college or institute in relevant, particular streams Psychology in case of UGC NET Psychology

  • Candidates of final year Master's Degree waiting for results or appearing for the final year exam can also apply for the UGC NET Psychology Exam

  • However, these final year candidates who have qualified for the UGC NET Psychology Exam will be admitted and considered only after securing the minimum percentage set up by the NTA (National Testing Agency)

  • These candidates must complete their post-graduation within 2 years from the date of UGC NET Psychology Results with the prescribed percentage, otherwise, they will be treated as disqualified

  • All the candidates who have completed their Ph.D. and master's degree on September 19, 1991, can avail of 5% relaxation from the percentage aggregate prescribed

Age

The age criteria that candidates have to meet are given below.

  • For Junior Research Fellowship - The age of the candidates must not be more than 31 as of 1st January 2021,i.e, all the candidates who have completed their Master's Degree can apply for the exam but their age should not be over 31

  • Assistant Professor - There are no upper age criteria for the candidates applying for Assistant Professor and all the Master's  completed candidates from a recognized university can apply for the exam

  • However, there are age relaxations as per the rules of the Government. 5 years age relaxation is provided to the candidates of Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Physically Handicapped (PwD), Other Backward Classes (OBC), and women candidates

  • Candidates having research experience in the subject of post-graduation will be given relaxation equal to the period spent on research

  • Candidates who are having an LLM degree will be given a relaxation of 3 years

Number of Attempts

For Junior Research Fellowship - Candidates can attempt the UGC NET Psychology exam only three times for the JRF

  • Candidates who are below 31 and completed their Master's Degree from a recognized university or college can apply for the JRF exam subject to 3 attempts

For Assistant Professor - There are no limited attempts for the UGC NET Psychology professor posting and candidates can write the exam any number of times subject to the educational qualifications prescribed

Reservation Policy 2021

As per the rules of the Government, the reservation policy is applicable for the UGC NET exam.

UGC NET Psychology Eligibility - Important Points

Some important guidelines related to the UGC NET exam eligibility are

  • Candidates are advised to appear for the UGC NET exam in their Post Graduation subject only. Here it is Psychology

  • Candidates as per the recommendations of the exam conducting body can appear for the subject related to the post-graduation if their post-graduation subject is not covered in the UGC listed subjects

  • Candidates who are having a post-graduate diploma or certificate from an Indian University or a foreign University should verify that whether their diploma or degree certificate is equal to the Indian Universities Master's Degree or not

  • The equivalence of this must be verified from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi

EXAM PATTERN

1. Paper I : It consists of 50 questions from UGC NET teaching & research aptitude exam (general paper), which you have to attempt in 1 hour.

2. Paper II : The UGC Psychology exam (paper 2) will have 100 questions and the total duration will be two hours. Each question carries 2 marks, so the exam will be worth 200 marks. Read below to know the pattern of NET Psychology examination (part II).
