NTA-NET EDUCATION

University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) is a national-level exam conducted in order to determine the eligibility of candidates for only Assistant Professor or both Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor post in Indian universities and colleges.

Age Limit

Age criteria for candidates applying for the exam:

  • The maximum age to apply for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), candidates should not be of more than 31 years of age as of 1st March 2021.

  • In the case of the role of Assistant Professor, there is no maximum age limit to apply.

  • SC/ST/OBC/PwD and women candidates are given a relaxation of five years. 

  • Candidates will be given relaxation in age limit if they have research experience and will be given relaxation limited to the period spent on research in the relevant subject of Post-Graduation degree.

  • Candidates holding an LLM degree will have three years of relaxation in age criteria.

Educational Qualification

Candidates are required to have specified educational qualifications as below to qualify for being eligible to apply for the UGC NET exam. 

  • Aspirants must have scored at least 55 percent marks in their master’s degree exams. 

  • Candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Other Backward Class (OBC)/Persons with Disability (PwD)/Transgender category are given relaxation of 5 %.

  • Candidates must have a post-graduation degree from a UGC recognized college or university in relevant streams.

Important Guidelines for UGC NET Eligibility Criteria

A few important points that candidates need to keep in mind regarding UGC NET eligibility criteria are:

  • It is advisable for candidates to appear for the UGC NET 2021 exam in the subject of their post-graduation only.

  • In case the post-graduation subject is not listed in the subjects given by UGC, candidates can appear in a related subject as per the official recommendation.

  • Those holding a post-graduate diploma or certificate by an Indian university or degree or diploma or certificate by a foreign university must confirm if their diploma or degree or certificate is equivalent to a master’s degree of any recognized Indian university.

EXAM PATTERN

1. Paper I : It consists of 50 questions from UGC NET teaching & research aptitude exam (general paper), which you have to attempt in 1 hour.

2. Paper II : The UGC Psychology exam (paper 2) will have 100 questions and the total duration will be two hours. Each question carries 2 marks, so the exam will be worth 200 marks. Read below to know the pattern of NET Psychology examination (part II).
